Ever since Steve Ewing opened his first hot dog stand in 2008, he found himself wondering about something St. Louis seemed to be lacking.
“It’s like, ‘Why don’t we have a hot dog?’” Ewing told St. Louis on the Air. “We’ve done specials [like] the Seattle dog, the Denver dog or the Carolina dog. All these other places have dogs, and we don’t have an official hot dog.”

Invented by Chef Joseph Zeable, the dog is Steve's former HYAAAH! hot dog. "When we opened up the restaurant on the Hill, we would routinely just shout hyaaah at each other," Zeable says. "And we decided to name this dog that."
